Smart Plugs: Opening a New Era of Remote Energy Management

The New Demand for Smart Homes and Energy Management

In today's global quest for energy efficiency and smart living, there is a growing demand for efficient energy management in the smart home and energy metering sectors. To meet the needs of consumers and energy solution providers, one company has developed an innovative smart plug.

Smart Plug Features and Benefits

This smart plug excels in energy management. It can be used to monitor energy usage and save power consumption by remotely controlling load switches. Equipped with a power and energy meter with a measurement accuracy of up to ±0.5%, the user is able to track hourly, daily, monthly and historical total energy consumption in detail through the smartphone app. The smart plug, which supports multiple plug types and can be used in multiple countries, gives ordinary appliances IoT functionality, giving users a better understanding of energy usage and the ability to convert real-time power consumption into accurate billing data. For example, it can easily manage all appliances by automatically turning them off during non-working hours and on during working hours, reducing unnecessary power consumption and manual labor.

It also features multiple protection mechanisms, including overload, overcurrent, overvoltage and undervoltage protection. The plug will automatically turn off when it detects that the measured value is out of the safe range and the duration exceeds the safe time, reducing the risk of damage to the connected electrical equipment. In addition, the RGB LED ring changes color depending on the power used by the plugged-in load, providing users with a convenient and intuitive way to quickly see how the load power is changing.

Advanced Technology Integration

This smart plug integrates advanced technology. It utilizes a high-performance SoC as the device's main processor to run sensor-based algorithms to monitor energy consumption and measure parameters such as instantaneous voltage, current, active power, power factor and frequency with high accuracy. The SoC integrates a 64MHz Arm Cortex-M4 and floating-point unit microprocessor to provide the Smart Plug with powerful computing capabilities.

In addition, the Smart Plug integrates another advanced SiP that provides NB-IoT wireless connectivity for low-power wireless data communication over cellular IoT networks. The Smart Plug is capable of connecting to third-party client cloud servers and smartphone/tablet applications through various MQTT servers. It can also be deployed as a Bluetooth LE gateway for people location and asset management applications. Smart attendance and employee interaction can be easily realized in a smart office.
